Frequently asked questions
What are the preferred settings for viewing this site?
It is recommended that you have Internet Explorer 5.0+. Other browsers are acceptable but may produce unintended results. The Commission website uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to display information and older browsers may not display pages correctly. Information on this and other software used by the APS Commission is available from Downloads and Submitting electronic documents.
The size of your screen should be at least 800x600 (this will require additional scrolling to access all features) and preferably higher.
I want to print a page but the edge is missing - what can I do?
Documents on the Commission website are designed to print with the following specifications:
Paper: A4 (210mm x 297mm)
Left margin: 25mm
Right margin: 25mm
Printing with wider margins may result in part of the document missing.
To change your margins in Internet Explorer:
- Go to the File menu
- Select Page Setup...
- Change the left and right margins to 25mm or smaller
I've been told that there is a document on the Commission website but I can't find it. What can I do?
Navigation
- Try our A-Z listing or employment policy pages. They both list subjects covered by material on our website.
- Go to our publications page for books, circulars page for circulars or learning and development page for training material.
- Use our search engine.
- If all these measures fail then email the webmaster (webmaster@apsc.gov.au).
Internet address (URL) doesn't work
There are three things to check:
- Check the URL is typed in correctly. It is simple to make a typing error when going into the website.
- Check the URL is current. Since the original creation of this website we have changed a lot of the URL's to make them easier to find and type in. We have also added and removed pages depending on their relevance. If you have a publication with an old URL in it it may not work any longer.
- Check that you have the latest version of the page. Because Internet browsers store files in cache it is possible to load up an old version of a webpage. This can mean that the document will not appear on your browser despite assurances that it is. The solution to this is to click on the Reload (Netscape Navigator) or Refresh (Microsoft Internet Explorer) buttons in your toolbar. This should load up the latest version of the page.
If these steps don't work or if you are searching for key words then use our search engine. If all these measures fail then email the webmaster (webmaster@apsc.gov.au).
Where have the links gone?
To improve accessibility we have reduced the number of links included in the general text of each document. Where links remain they are generally:
- external websites
- navigation within the document or section of the website
Where links have been removed from the general text they have been moved to the related pages box in the top-right corner of the page.
