Confronting Contemporary Challenges
These events provide participants with a forum to hear and interact with leading speakers on significant challenges facing the APS, based on recently launched publications.
Building Better Governance
Achieving excellence in governance is a key challenge for the Australian Public Service (APS). This means paying attention to the ‘should do’ aspects of sound governance, as well as the ‘musts’. Listen to and interact with Jamie Clout , Deputy Director General, Corporate Enabling Division of AusAID, as he discusses AusAID’s approach to building better governance.
This event is the final of a four part series scheduled for Monday, 27 October 2008.
Programme overview
- The publication Building Better Governance contains a number of case studies that illustrate in a very practical way the arrangements a number of APS agencies have put in place to improve their practices and approaches to governance.
- The case studies demonstrate that excellence in governance can only be achieved if sound governance practices are part and parcel of the culture of the organisation – they need to be actively upheld and implemented by every person in the organisation.
- In launching the latest addition to this series of case studies, Jamie Clout will provide insights into how AusAID has taken major steps to ensure it has governance arrangements to suit its changing operating environment.
This session would be of interest to Australian Public Service employees working on implementing or improving their agency’s governance arrangements, as well as those who would like to know more about what sound public sector governance means in practice.
