Frequently asked questions
How do I apply for a job in the Australian Public Service?
The Gazette (available online at www.APSjobs.gov.au) or other advertisement will tell you how to obtain the selection documentation for vacancies of interest to you. You can discuss the requirements of the position and the detail required in your application with the contact officer nominated in the advertisement.
The following Commission publications may be useful in preparing your application:
- Cracking the Code
- Getting a job in the Australian Public Service
- Ability at Work: A Good Practice Guide - Working better together
Your application should clearly state your skills, qualifications, personal qualities and experience in respect of each of the selection criteria.
There is no longer any centrally co-ordinated recruitment test or central referral agency for employment in the APS.
If you have particular skills or an interest in a particular agency you may contact the agency directly to see what opportunities they have available.
