Frequently Asked Questions - for Individuals

Q: I have been declared excess. What happens now?

A: To access the Centre’s career transition services, your agency must refer you at a fee of $2,200. Once you have been referred to the Centre, you will be assigned your personal career transition advisor and will be provided with up to 17 hours of active career support. Short training programmes, designed to assist with career transition, are also available which is in addition to the 17 hours and at no additional cost.

Please note that being declared excess does not automatically make you a client of the Centre. It is up to your agency to decide if they would like to refer you to the Centre. If you feel that you may benefit from the Centre’s services, please contact your human resources area to discuss referral.

Q: Will the Centre be facilitating job swaps?

A: Agencies have been planning responses to budgetary constraints that ensure experienced staff and those with critical specialist skills are retained in the APS. As the Government’s priority is to retain skills, the Centre will not be facilitating job swaps. This matter is one for agency consideration and should be referred to your human resources area.

Q: Can the Centre advise on how I can get a voluntary redundancy (VR)?

A: The Centre’s is primarily responsible for coordinating redeployment and is unable to advise individuals on obtaining a VR package. This is a discretionary matter for individual agencies and all enquiries should be directed to your human resources area.
